I have a new Christmas tradition. Somewhere after the turkey is put to rest. I wander into my Itunes to dig out Nicole and the Dreamcatchers who woo me into delight and hilarity for 7 songs amounting to a little under 6 minutes of time. Who is Nicole and what is she about? I can tell you for sure that I don't know. And what I don't know my mind gets to put tooth to. I think she is a girl somewhere around 12 years of age who has a bad time carrying a tune, but is incredibly fun and imaginative. She is also someone who has a grip on true holiday excitement and anticipation that is sought in ideal by so many...Nicole doesn't seek illumination she owns it.
So now is you chance visit Sounds Are Active and download the Krismus Karuls album for FREE which also includes 16 other holiday focused tracks including various Sound Are Active and Asthmatic Kitty artists. While you are there in the seasonal spirit you may also want to download the free e.p. by I Heart Lung - I Heart Christmas. More tunes to put on heavy rotation as you shop for friends and family online.
Zack-this may in fact be the greatest collection of holiday songs ever assembled under the sun. It is honestly awkward and honestly beautiful... honestly. I found myself especially tilting my head in wonder at the unmistakable opening of pearl jam's "jeremy" chiming in and fading out towards the end of "chocolate stars". My goodness. Thanks for turning me on to such delightful music my friend. -joel
One of the things Asthmatic Kitty's artists (+ Sounds Familiare's) tend to have in common is this tendency to make me giddy with laughter, they are seriously silly, simple and playful and serious, sometimes serious/sad/touching but mostly seriously playful, like kids.
'Ah-ooh-nee-oh' "-it MIGHT be a Christmas song" and "-there are hand motions but you couldn't see them..." oh, funny.
'Don't be scared there is a Savior' is my truly favorite, a more normal kind of song with only a line or two that give me silly-smiles, and then the silly-smiles lead to peaceful-smiles. It's nice.
I've never really gotten into Nichole but I can see the appeal. "Santa - is - theee - greeaaaatest!" (Elliott told me he likes Santa, then he added that he likes Jesus too. Super cute.)
