somewhere between success & failure

your unapologetic hoosier

My grandparents were kind enough to send a couple of IU shirts for their little great grandsons. They have been season ticket holders for years with seats 10 aisles behind the home team. Needless to say, I learned much of my deviant behavior and colorful language from Bob Knight himself.

Basketball is in my blood and its guess its time to pump it into my tykes....Really though, this time of year during the NCAA playoffs if I have a tv that gets any sorta reception, I am straight glued. A land of promise for underdogs and a battle ground for giants, the tournament is easy for me to get emersed in. But this is also coming, again, from a kid who grew up cutting the fingers off of gloves so that I could play 2 on 2 in ice and snow on an old pig lot converted to half court (no reason to waste a slab of concrete). A rubber ball worn to smooth slickness and old drainage pipes were the only obstacles in this world of dribbling bliss.

Every now and again I get a glimpse such as this that reminds me why our friendship makes sense, or is so easy and comfortable- an old pig lot converted to a half court, indeed. We are from the same soil, and the same era. And you always remind me of that fact in a way that makes me laugh, like when you recited all those familiar Run DMC lyrics when we were first working together. Ah, how boring it is here now by comparison...

    miss you! pk
